HNCs (Higher National Certificates)
What are HNCs?
- These nationally recognised qualifications are more vocationally-focused than Foundation Degrees
- HNCs combine practical and academic experience - and consist of 10 modules (160 credits)
- HNCs are particularly popular with certain industries
- HNCs are ideal for students who want to continue working, and are normally studied part-time allowing you to combine work and study
- You can usually 'add to' an HNC to gain a Foundation Degree

"My employer, a firm of Building Services Consulting Engineers, has sponsored me to do this course as the content of the programme is exactly relevant to the practical work I deal with in my job everyday. I spend one day a week in College studying various aspects of design, organisation and management of electrical services and buildings.
"The teaching on the course has been fantastic and really supportive, and I have found it to be of particular benefit to work with specialist software and CAD packages as this has greatly enhanced the skills I can call upon in the work place. After finishing the course there will be a number of opportunities open to me, including completing a full honours degree at university, and much improved career prospects!"
