What will I do on this course?
The course is made up of a series of units covering a range of different animals and working situations:
- Care of exotic species
- Animal health, welfare and behaviour
- Animal accommodation
- Animal handling
- Understanding the land-based industry
- Feeding and watering
We will make sure that you have the Maths and English skills that employers need.
Who is it for?
This course is suitable for you if you are interested in animals and have just left school, or if you want to improve your employment prospects.
For students aged 16 - 18 years old and achieved a Grade D at GCSE in Maths and/or English, you are also required to attend GCSE maths and / or English classes and resit the relevant exam(s).
For students aged 16 - 18 years old and achieved a Grade E at GCSE in Maths and/or English, you are also required to attend Functional skills maths and / or English classes and complete the relevant exam(s).
How Is this course assessed?
You will be assessed through: Regular portfolio assessment throughout the year, by which you will always know how you are progressing on course and given many opportunities to improve your performance. Assessments in English and Maths at a level appropriate to you. These are taken in small groups in classrooms
What could I do next?
You could progress to Level 2 Diploma in Animal Care, or work within a diverse range of animal-related occupations, including:
- Kennel and cattery staff
- Animal technician
- Pet store assistant
You will need to pay £145.00 towards trips that will take place throughout the year.
