About the course

Physics A Level is an excellent qualification to have, giving you the potential for entry into a huge range of exciting and rewarding jobs, careers and courses at university. It is designed to build upon the work already done in the Physics component of Science at GCSE.

Entry Requirements

  • 6 GCSEs at grade C or above
  • Grade B or above in Maths
  • BB for GCSE Science in Core and Additional or at least a B in GCSE Physics
What will I do on this course?

Physics is all around us in everything we do. We are born to try and understand and to make sense of the world we see, touch and hear. Physics forms the basis for a great deal of our past, present and future technology and this course offers you the opportunity to explore some of the fundamental concepts and mysteries of the world we live in, such as mechanics, electricity, particle physics, waves and energy.There are five sections that cover the AS content:

  • Measurements and their errors
  • Particles and radiation
  • Waves
  • Mechanics and materials
  • Electricity
Who is it for?

This course is part of a full time A Level programme of 4 different subjects and will appeal to Year 11 students who have an interest and ability in science who enjoys exploring laws and relationships and solving problems.

How Is this course assessed?

Assessment for AS level Physics is by two written exams each of 1 hour and 30 minutes, each covering sections 1 - 5.These exams will be sat at the end of the first year and do not contribute to the final A-level
