About the course

Completing an Apprenticeship is a great way to earn a real wage whilst gaining practical work experience, developing your skills and knowledge, and achieving nationally recognised qualifications. Achieving the business administration Apprenticeship will allow you to develop your skills and career in an area that is essential in any business. 

Entry Requirements

You will ideally have English & Maths GCSEs Grade 3 or above. You will also need:

  • Good organisation and planning skills
  • Good knowledge of IT  
  • To be able to work as a team
  • The willingness to commit to a job

To undertake an apprenticeship you will need to be employed (minimum 30 hours per week). If you don't have an offer of employment we can help you find a placement. We will invite you to attend an initial assessment and interview and will then put your details forwards to employers that are recruiting.

What will I do on this course?

The Apprenticeship combines developing practical and theoretical skills, together with experience gained in the workplace.You could develop a variety of administrative skills including:

  • Database software
  • Handling mail
  • Maintaining and issuing stationery items
  • Managing diary systems
  • Meeting and welcome visitors
  • Operating office equipment
  • Organising and supporting meetings
  • Organising business travel and accommodation
  • Preparing text from notes
  • Preparing text from recorded audio instructions
  • Presentation software
  • Producing documents
  • Researching and reporting information
  • Solving business problems
  • Specialist or bespoke software
  • Spreadsheet software
  • Storing, retrieving and archiving information
  • Supporting event organisation
  • Taking minutes
  • Using electronic message systems
  • Using a telephone system
  • Using website software
  • Working effectively with other people
  • Word processing software

On completion, you will have gained knowledge about your employment rights and responsibilities and will have the following qualifications:

  • Business Administration Diploma Level 2  
  • Level 1 Functional Skills qualification in English (if applicable)
  • Level 1 Functional Skills qualification in Mathematics (if applicable)
  • Level 1 Functional Skills qualification in Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
Who is it for?

If you're enthusiastic, motivated and efficient at multi-tasking there are plenty of opportunities in business administration. You will learn the skills required to succeed and put them into practice in a real working environment. The skills you learn can easily be transferred between companies and sectors. Administration roles are also an excellent starting point to move into management once you have more experience. You should be interested in roles such as:

How Is this course assessed?

Competency is assessed through a combination of methods. Your assessor will visit you in the workplace and assess your progress. You will attend college one day per week for 14 weeks and assessment will be through online assessments. 

What could I do next?

On completion, you will have the skills and experience needed to develop your career in business administration. Subject to agreement from your employer you can progress onto an Advanced Apprenticeship in Business Administration.
