About the course

You may have been promoted, or are about to be, into a management role. Either way, you now need a new set of skills to manage people, resource, information and the work effectively.

This one-year programme will give managers broad based formal development in their job role, so they get the best out of their team. 

Entry Requirements

GCSEs in English and Maths or equivalent level 2 qualification

The course fee includes membership of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) who are the awarding body for this qualification.

Learners should be employed and in a position to benefit from the course content. You will be required to attend sessions from 18:00 until 21:00.

What will I do on this course?

To achieve the Level 3 Diploma in First Line Management learners need to complete all core units (Group A) and one optional unit (Group B) to a total of at least 37 credits to achieve the qualification.

Range of guided learning hours: 140  - 145.

Mandatory Group A:

  • Personal development as a first line manager
  • Resource planning
  • Meeting stakeholder needs
  • Managing and communicating information
  • Identifying development opportunities

Group B (optional):

  • Improving team performance

These equate to 37 credits as per CMI requirements

Who is it for?

This programme is aimed at managers who have been in post for a while without having had any management skills development. It is also relevant to those who act as stand-in managers, or are about to be promoted into a management position.

The programme is also designed for team leaders, to support the development of their skills in leading a team, making sure that the team’s work achieves organisational objectives, and contributes to planning, problem solving and decision making.

If you're aged 19 - 23 and do not currently hold a full Level 2 qualification or above, you may be eligible to learn for free when you enrol on your first full Level 2 or Level 3 course.

If you're aged 19 or over, and are registered unemployed or in receipt of one of the following benefits, you may be eligible for free tuition on many of our courses:

  • Jobseekers' Allowance
  • Employment Support Allowance in the work-related activity group
  • Council Tax Benefit
  • Housing Benefit
  • Income Support
  • Working Tax Credit
  • Pension Credit

This also applies to:

How Is this course assessed?

Assessment is undertaken via a series of work based assignments, which tranfer learning from the classroom to the workplace. They are assessed internally, and then verified by the Chartered Management Institute.

The course will be taught using a variety of methods which will include:

  • Case Studies

  • Interactive lectures

  • Group and individual tasks

  • Discussions

  • The course includes two all-day workshops (Date to be confirmed)

Assessment: by written assignments, one for each of 7 units

What could I do next?

Learners may progress to further management courses e.g. CMI Level 4 or 5 Management and Leadership Diploma.
