About the course

This is a part-time programme designed to develop a foundation of practical skills and knowledge in the field of project management.

Entry Requirements

It is expected that candidates will already be working in a programme or project management environment, although the qualification is also open to people wishing to build on their general management skills. You need to have a good standard of spoken and written English. You should also have basic working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets and presentation applications.

What will I do on this course?

The course sessions will be practical and interactive - based on good practice as well as theory; using a combination of discussion, case studies, worked examples and critical analysis to explore and understand:

  • What is a project? Recognising, defining and scoping a project
  • Why does a project need managing? Improving the success rate
  • What is special about managing a project? The art of management in a project context
  • Who does what? The importance of the project team and effective teamwork
  • How to effectively set up and run a project. Planning, people, monitoring , controls and communication
  • What does success look like? Quality assurance, benefits realisation and achieving goals
Who is it for?

This is suitable for you if you:

  • are aspiring to, or embarking on, a career in project management
  • are involved in projects in a support role and wish to further develop your knowledge and skills
  • have responsibility for managing project activities within an organisation without a specialist function

How Is this course assessed?

You will be formally assessed via coursework-based projects, normally based on your organisation or one you are familiar with.

What could I do next?

You can progress onto recognised professional studies such as PRINCE2 or those provided by the Association of Project Management. You can also progress onto the CMI Level 5 Leadership & Management qualification.
