About the course

The course comprises of two mandatory modules - Marketing Principles and Customer Communications.  To gain the CIM Level 3 Foundation Certificate in Marketing a pass in both modules is required. However, each module can also be taken as a standalone course to gain an award.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements other than an interest in learning more about Marketing.

What will I do on this course?

The course comprises of two modules:

Marketing Principles

Aim of the module - this module provides an understanding of the key concepts and terminology used in marketing. It provides the knowledge and understanding of the role and function of marketing within organisations and explores the factors that influence consumer behaviour. It identifies key components of the marketing environment and enables an appreciation of how to collect and utilise relevant information.

The module comprises of three units:

  • Discovering marketing
  • The marketing environment
  • Marketing mix

Customer Communications

Aim of the module - this module provides an understanding of how marketing communications can be used in practice to engage with customers. It enables appreciation of the customer and considers the importance of understanding the nature of customer relationships and how those relationships are managed and monitored. It provides the knowledge and understanding of the purpose and process of marketing communications and the range of communication tools available.

The module comprises of three units:

  • Who are customers?
  • Communication with customers
  • Creating a marketing communications campaign
Who is it for?

This course is for those new to marketing and provides an introduction to the fundamentals of marketing and understanding customers. By the end of the course you will understand the marketing function and its organisational role, the marketing mix and how to apply it, understand customers and customer relationships and more. The course looks at marketing from the perspective of different markets and organisation types.

How Is this course assessed?

Marketing Principles module is assessed by an examination comprising multiple-choice questions. Customer Communications module is assessed by an assignment based on a given scenario and an organisation of choice. The assignment is broken down into three tasks.

CIM Professional Certificate in Marketing, comprising of three units and delivered over one evening per week
