CAD: AutoCAD in 3D City of Bristol CollegeLearn how to use AutoCAD for 3D.
You can start this flexi-course at any time. You will have one year to complete the course which typically takes about 90 hours in total, coming when it suits you. You will build on techniques learned in our 2D AutoCAD courses, or your existing AutoCAD experience.
You will learn how to create and edit both solid and surface 3D AutoCAD models under the guidance of an industry-experienced, Autodesk-Certified Instructor.

Who is this course for?
This course is for advanced 2D AutoCAD users looking to be able to use AutoCAD for 3D drafting and 3D technical drawings. Alternatively this is for user who wishes to get their existing 3D AutoCAD skills confirmed by a nationally-recognised certificate.
What you'll learn
During this course, you will learn how to use AutoCAD in 3D to efficiently produce and edit 3D CAD drawings. You will cover topics such as:
- 3D data entry
- using multiple views for modelling
- freeform 3D modelling
- exporting the 3D file (e.g. for 3D printing).
Course entry requirements
You need previous CAD experience for this course, but not necessarily in 3D. For instance, you may have experience from industry or our AutoCAD 2D Advanced course.
You will need a working understanding of English and Maths and the ability to use Windows-based computers confidently.
Entry interview
You need to attend an interview – in person or by phone. Phone interviews can be arranged, as necessary, call 0117 3122703 or email CAD@cityofbristol.ac.uk.
If you want a college-based, in-person interview, sessions are on Wednesdays at the College Green Centre, during term time, in room 6E22H, at 16:00.
You do not need to book, just sign in at reception and allow upwards of an hour, just in case you visit us during a busy time. Other times can be arranged, simply call or email as above.
How is the course delivered and assessed?
This course is a flexi-course which allows you to attend college as and when you can. Once enrolled, you can tailor your course timing to suit your needs. The course takes around 90 hours to complete, which must be done within a year of starting – how quickly is up to you.
You will be assessed through tests at the end of the course, as set out by City & Guilds. If successful, you’ll receive a nationally-recognised CAD qualification, along with an Autodesk ATC Certificate of Completion confirming your achievement.
Future career and study opportunities
After successfully completing this course, you will be equipped with the essential skills and knowledge to use AutoCAD to effectively produce 3D technical drawings. This course can help start you on a career that requires the ability to create technical drawings in a variety of fields.
You can progress onto other CAD courses on offer such as Inventor, Fusion 360, Revit.

Enrolment on the course entitles you to download a free copy of AutoCAD, for educational purposes, from Autodesk.
It is assumed that you already have a suitable computer to use this on. If you can’t / don’t want to use the College’s CAD Windows computers. Mac computers can be used, simply call / email for further information.
