CAD: Revit City of Bristol College

Start to use Autodesk’s 3D BIM modeller.

This one-year, flexi-course is for beginners which teaches you the fundamental of how to use Revit, Autodesk’s BIM modeller for building design/documentation. You will learn how to create, edit and document 3D Revit models.

Your learning will be through hands-on use of Revit. You will be taught by an industry-experienced, Autodesk-Certified Instructor.

Additional information

Who is this course for?

This course is for those wanting to become Revit users for Architecture, Structure, or MEP. You will learn how to use Autodesk’s BIM authoring tool to create 3D models of your buildings and the associated construction information, for construction and wider BIM implementation uses.

What you'll learn

During this course, you will learn the essentials of how to use Revit – in your choice of just one of its disciplines – to efficiently produce 3D BIM models of the buildings/their contents.

No matter what your choice of discipline is you will learn how to start a project and go on to use all the key features needed to create, useable, working 3D models of the building elements required by that discipline.

You will then learn how to get Revit to produce the required 2D drawings and the associated documentation typically required on a project, directly from these 3D models you’ve created.

Course entry requirements

To join this course, you will need enthusiasm for learning Revit. Previous experience of CAD isn’t required but may be beneficial.

You will need a working understanding of English and Maths and the ability to use Windows-based computers confidently.

You will also need knowledge of construction processes for the discipline you want to learn Revit for.

Entry interview

You need to attend an interview – in person or by phone. Phone interviews can be arranged, as necessary; call 0117 3122703 or email CAD@cityofbristol.ac.uk.

If you want a college-based, in-person interview, sessions are on Wednesdays at the College Green Centre, during term time, in room 6E22H, at 16:00.

You do not need to book, just sign in at reception and allow upwards of an hour, just in case you visit us during a busy time. Other times can be arranged, simply call or email as above.

How is the course delivered and assessed?

This course is a flexi-course which allows you to attend college as and when you can. Once enrolled, you can tailor your course timing to suit your needs. The course takes around 90 hours to complete, which must be done within a year of starting – how quickly is up to you.

At the end of the course you will be assessed through the creation of your own Revit project which you will create from scratch. When successfully completed, you will receive both College and Autodesk Certificates to confirm your achievement.

Future career and study opportunities

After successfully completing this course, you will be equipped with the essential 2D / 3D skills and knowledge to use Revit help you start, or progress, your career – which requires the ability to create 3D building models for BIM and their associated technical drawings, in a variety of construction fields.

On finishing the course you can progress onto other 3D CAD courses on offer. However, Revit Families is highly recommended – as using Families is key to using Revit effectively, as you will have discovered on this course.

Additional costs

There are no required additional costs for this course beyond the course fee – call / email to find out the fee.

Enrolment on the course entitles you to download a free copy of Revit, for educational purposes, from Autodesk. It is assumed you already have a suitable computer to use this on.

If you can’t / don’t want to use the College’s CAD Windows computers, Mac computers can be used, simply call / email for further information.
