About the course

This course combines the challenge of obtaining level 2 qualification with full-time employment. It consists of a number of qualifications including a Certificate in ICT Systems and Principles and a Level 2 Diploma in professional competence for IT and Telecommunication professionals.

Entry Requirements

You should be in full time employment and have one of the following:

  • 2 GCSEs at grade D and above
  • Excellent record of attendance and punctuality
  • You will need to have a good standard of English and Maths
  • or appropriate experience

Mature students will be given individual consideration.

What will I do on this course?

Mandatory modules

You will study the Certificate in ICT Systems and Principles in College on a day release basis with supporting eLearning materials over a period of up to 18 months. The exact modules will depend on your area of specialism but there are core modules include:

  • Health and Safety
  • Computer systems
  • Employability and professional development
  • Object oriented programming (normally 'C')
  • Networking technologies
  • Web applications development
  • System analysis and design
  • Website design
  • IT support for end users
  • Multi-media design and authoring
  • Database design concepts
  • Work based experience
  • CISCO ITE (CompTIA A+) modules
  • Communication Technologies
  • Technical Fault Diagnoses

How Is this course assessed?

Assessment is a continuous process by means of in-course assignments with observations and end of module examination for some modules. Assessments and assignments may be practical or theoretical according to the content of the module.

What could I do next?

You will be able to progress to level 3 National Diploma in IT Networking and Systems Support. This course also provides the opportunity to progress on to the Advanced Apprenticeship in IT at level 3.

Additional cost

Some optional vendor modules require an additional exam fee. This can be discussed at your interview.
