About the course

The Electrical Diploma Level 3 course develops your knowledge and skills. If you are looking for a career as a Electrician in the construction industry, then this course will provide you with the industry-standard skills that potential employers desire.

Entry Requirements

Essential Requirements:                        

  • Successful completion of level 2 Electrical course                             
  • Achieved GCSE or Functional Skills targets                           
  • Excellent record of attendance and commitment at school/college                         
  • Demonstrate a high degree of enthusiasm and a commitment to succeed and prepare effectively for employment                

Desirable Requirements:                             

  • An attendance record at college in excess of 90%                            
  • A strong commitment to adopt a 'work ready' approach, taking responsibility for your own development and behaviour                               
  • Completed 30 hours or more of work experience within the construction industry
What will I do on this course?

The course is comprised of a mixture of both practical and theory based learning and assessments. You may also be required to study maths and English as part of your course.


As the course is currently delivered over 1 year, you will be required to complete some units as distance learning. These units will be discussed with you by your tutor.

This course is suitable for learners who are progressing from the level 2 diploma course in Electrical.

You will be assessed in a number of different ways and receive regular feedback in reviews to guide your progress. Some of the ways in which your success will be measured are:

  • Practical assessments
  • Portfolio work
What could I do next?

On successful completion of the course you may be able to apply for an apprenticeship in the Electrical industry or obtain employment, and complete you NVQ level 3.  After completing then NVQ you will  be recognised as a fully qualified electrician.  The AM2 final test is part of the NVQ level 3.
