About the course

This qualification is a basic craft introduction to the Painting and Decorating industry. This course gives you the opportunity to study both the knowledge and practical aspects of Painting and Decorating at Level 1.

Entry Requirements

Essential Requirements you must have:  

  • range of qualifications which should include at least 3 GCSEs at grade E or above, including English and Maths (or equivalent)
    OR successful completion of an Entry 3 vocational qualification
  • an initial assessment at entry level 3 or above
  • a good record of attendance and commitment at school or college
  • Demonstrate a high degree of enthusiasm and a commitment to succeed and prepare effectively for employment

Desirable Requirements

  • GCSEs in maths and English at grade D or above
  • An excellent record of attendance and commitment at school/college
  • A strong commitment to adopt a 'work ready' approach, taking responsibility for your own development and behaviour
What will I do on this course?

You will work towards improving your skills and achieving qualifications, with both theory and practical sessions on:

  • CSA L1Core01 Health, safety and welfare in construction and associated industries
  • CSA L1Core02 Knowledge of technical information, quantities and communication with others
  • CSA L1Core03 Knowledge of construction technology
  • CSA L1Occ12 Erect and dismantle access equipment and working platforms
  • CSA L1Occ13 Prepare common surface types for decoration
  • CSA L1Occ14 Apply basic paint systems by brush and roller
  • CSA L1Occ15 Apply foundation and plain papers
  • CSA L1Occ23 Produce standard decorative finishes

You may also be required to study maths and English as part of your course.

This course is suitable for 16-18 year olds who have a keen interest to learn knowledge and skills to start a career as a Painting and Decorator.

What could I do next?

On successful completion of the course you may be able to progress to the level 2 Diploma in Painting and Decorating course. You could also apply for an apprenticeship in the Painting and Decorating industry.

Additional cost

You will need protective footwear and a high visibility vest for practical sessions.
