What will I do on this course?
Unit 101/501 Principles of building construction, information and communication
You will learn the basic principles of construction including the roles and responsibilities of various other trades and construction professionals. You will also learn about the documentation and methods of communication that are used within the construction industry
Unit 116 Erecting and dismantling access equipment and working platforms
You will learn about and gain practical experience of erecting, dismantling and storing of access equipment such as ladders, trestle platforms and tower scaffolding
Unit 117 Preparing surfaces for decoration
You will learn about and gain practical experience of how to prepare surfaces to receive a decorative finish
Unit 118 Applying paint systems by brush and roller to non-complex areas
You will learn about and gain practical experience of applying paint by brush and roller
Unit 119 Applying foundation and plain papers
You will learn about and gain practical experience of wallpaper hanging
Unit 120 Producing specialist decorative finishes
You will learn about and gain practical experience of producing special decorative finishes such as rag rolling, stencil work and colour effects
Unit 201/601 Health, safety and welfare in construction
You will learn all about Health safety and welfare in construction ranging from legislation to fire safety to accident reporting

What could I do next?
On successful completion of the course you may be able to progress to the level 2 Diploma Painting and Decorating. You could also apply for an apprenticeship in the Painting and Decorating industry.
You will need protective footwear and a high visibility vest for practical sessions.
