About the course

Into College is a course (3.5 days per week) for young people who would benefit from a highly structured programme of study.It is offered at both Ashley Down Centre and South Bristol Skills Academy. It is a one or two year programme and is ideal if you want to experience different work areas before deciding what you want to specialise in. We offer learners a wide range of vocational training options alongside core English, maths and IT skills to suit the academic needs and abilities of individual learners – for some this will be GCSE, for others, Functional Skills or Awards in English and/or mathematics. There will be opportunities for young people to develop their social and communication skills, within a mainstream college setting. All students undertake work experience and get involved in community enterprise projects.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements. You will have an interview where we can talk about the course and discuss what help you need. Taster days can be arranged after meeting with staff. There are no formal entry requirements. If you are aged 19-24 you will need to have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) in order to continue to access free education.

  • Motor Vehicle Technology (SBSA only)
  • Design Technology (wood work, jewellery making)
  • Horticulture
  • Art and Design
  • Retail and Enterprise


Extra-Curricular Activities:

  • Half day Sports Academy in partnership with Bristol Rugby and Sport England (SBSA only)
Who is it for?

If you are undecided about your work options and want to try out a range of work placements then Into College is for you. This course is for students aged 16-24 who are working at Entry level. 19-24 year olds will need to have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

How Is this course assessed?

You will work towards qualifications in Skills for Working Life at Entry Level 3. You will also be able to gain Functional Skills certificates in English and maths. Assessment is continuous, through a portfolio of work.
