About the course

This short evening course provides an extension to the basic skills of video editing. Macs computers are used on this course and we use Final Cut Pro X, industry-standard software. The course will build on the basic skills from the Introduction to Video Editing Course, with a focus on colour correction and effects editing, and will provide an opportunity to create your own video production

Entry Requirements

  • A keen interest in making videos
  • Your own media storage device of at least 64gb (hard drive or flash drive)
  • Something to record video footage (a Smart phone will do)
What will I do on this course?

The 5-week course structure is listed below:

  • Week 1 - Covering the basics 
  • Week 2 - Colour correction
  • Week 3 - Green Screening
  • Week 4 - Adding masks and effects
  • Week 5 - Practical task

Across the course, you will learn

  • What to look for when editing raw footage
  • How to develop custom transitions between clips
  • How to light a green screen for maximum effect
  • How to use chroma for visual effects
  • How to add visual effects to your video
  • How to use Masks to enhance your editing range
  • A detailed look at the principles of colour correct
  • You will be encouraged to film your own footage to edit
  • As part of this course you will create your own short video project
Who is it for?

The course is suitable for people who have completed the introduction to digital video editing, and also for people who have been making short videos themselves and want to take their skills to the next level.

There is no formal assessment for the course however, you will receive practical feedback on what you have done and how to develop it further.
