About the course

This module will give you the fundamental principles of handling text and will equip you with the appropriate skills to complement and inform digital editorial design. You will explore ideas in structuring and presenting text and imagery to produce solutions that communicate effectively in a range of editorial contexts.

Entry Requirements

This course is primarily intended as Continuous Professional Development and applicants will have probably studied at HNC or degree level or have some basic knowledge of InDesign, plus either Illustrator or Photoshop. All applicants are interviewed either personally or by telephone to assess their suitability for the course.


What will I do on this course?

The course focuses on:

  • Presentation techniques for representing illustrated text material
  • Indexing, referencing, pagination
  • Use of Adobe CC software  - InDesign, Illustrator and PhotoShop
  • Design solutions  - contexts, audience, print production
  • Typographic text tools, use of colour and images.


Who is it for?

This module is particularly appropriate for web designers who wish to further develop skills in editorial design. It will also be useful for those involved with aspects of editorial design, marketing, advertising, print production and printing.

How Is this course assessed?

Assessment will be 100% course work comprising 80% practical studio-based assignments and 20% research-based presentations.


What could I do next?

Full-time or part-time Foundation Degree in Graphic Design with Interactive Multimedia or another Bitesize course such as Information Design


Additional cost

Students will need memory sticks and hard-drives to back up and submit work.
