About the course

This part time evening course provides a comprehensive introduction to the principles of fashion design comprising of: fashion illustration, sewing techniques, basic fabric manipulation, pattern cutting and garment construction. 

Entry Requirements

No formal entry requirements, just bags of enthusiasm and commitment.

What will I do on this course?

Content will include:

  • independent research into themes relating to fashion, including history and contemporary practices
  • generate creativity through drawing and fashion illustration workshops as well as exploring design development
  • in sewing hands-on practice and fabric handling
  • create a finished prototype demonstrating sewing and pattern cutting skills as well as showing an understanding of fit on the body
  • complete a deconstruction project demonstrating the skills you have learned over the course, whilst showing aesthetic understanding
  • develop a portfolio of work, which would be of value to you if you wish to progress in this field or just as a personal document of your achievements
Who is it for?

Tailored to appeal to beginners with little or no previous experience who wish to enhance their knowledge and skill in fashion design.

What could I do next?

For mature students with related experience it is possible to progress onto the Subsidiary Diploma in Fashion & Clothing. 

Additional cost

It is advisable if you bring a sketch book, drawing material and a basic sewing kit.
