About the course

This course is suitable for those who have already obtained a Level 2 Teaching Assistant/ Childcare or related qualification. It may also be suitable for people with considerable experience in a support role in schools.  You will be expected to attend college for four hours a week as well as spending a day a week as a volunteer throughout the course. 

Entry Requirements

You will need to arrange an appropriate work placement in a school.

  • Wide experience in schools in a support role or as a teacher
  • To be 16 years of age or over
  • Literacy skills to at least Level 2
  • Completed a previous qualification at Level 2 in a related field
What will I do on this course?

You will be required to find your own school placement where you will gain practical experience as a TA in a voluntary capacity or you may already be employed as a teaching assistant. The school will normally carry out a CRB check on you. There are 11 compulsory modules in this qualification covering the role of a Teaching Assistant at Level 3. These are

  • Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults
  • Schools as organisations
  • Support learning activities
  • Promote children and young people's positive behaviour
  • Develop professional relationships with children, young people and adults
  • Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people
  • Support assessment for learning
  • Engage in personal development in health, social care or children's and young people's settings
  • Support children and young people's health and safety
  • Understand child and young person development
  • Understand how to safeguard the well being of children and young people
