About the course

The level 4 Certificate in Education and Training will enable you to provide a thorough preparation of the methods and principles of learning and teaching, applying these to the workplace and developing your skills as an effective practitioner.

Entry Requirements

You must have a minimum of 30 hours of current teaching/training practice. This is not hours per week but for the duration of the course. You will need to bring a letter to confirm these teaching/training hours to the interview.

What will I do on this course?

In order to undertake the course you will need to

  • Provide the opportunity for a course tutor to observe three of your teaching/training sessions
  • Have the aptitude and potential to study and achieve at Level 4
  • Write and reference clear reports with correct use of grammar, spelling and punctuation
  • Hold subject-specific qualifications/experience in the subject in which you are teaching
  • Require a subject mentor to support you throughout the course

You will study four compulsory units covering

  • Understanding Roles and Responsibilities in Relationships in Education and Training (3 credits)
  • Planning to Meet the Needs of Learners in Education and Training (3 credits)
  • Delivering Education and Training (6 credits)
  • Assessing Learners in Education and Training (6 credits)
  • Using Resources for Education and Training (3 credits)
  • Plus optional modules to the value of 15 credits (details given on course)
Who is it for?

This qualification is recommended for part-time teachers who teach in the following ways:

  • From packs/pre-prepared materials, and therefore have fewer responsibilities in design of curriculum and materials
  • On a one-to-one basis
  • A programme confined to a particular level/subject/type of learner
  • Short courses
  • Limited teaching e.g. volunteers or those in a non-paid role
