About the course

This is for those who have an interest in or a desire to join the public services (Including the Police, Fire Service and the Military). It covers the skills and standards that public services demand: consideration for others first; teamwork; getting the job done on time and to standard; pride in your work. 


  • Between the ages of 16-18 you do not need to pay tuition or exam fees for your course.
  • If you are between the ages of 19 and 23 and have not achieved a full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification before, you will not need to pay tuition, exam or material fees using the Level 2 or 3 Entitlement.
  • If you are aged 19 or over, studying a Level 3-6 and a Level 3 Entitlement does not apply, you will need to pay the full cost of the course. You may be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan to help with the fees.

Entry Requirements

You will need:

  • You must have 5 GCSEs at grade C or above including English Language

Students must have positive attitude towards attendance, punctuality and meeting assessment deadlines.

You will be enrolled on the 90 Credit Diploma, which is a one year course. Upon successful completion of year one, you can progress onto the Extended Diploma in year two.

Who is it for?

If you are interested in joining the public services or are interested in the public services in general this course will give you an insight into the workings and disciplines that you will have to develop to prepare you for work.

How Is this course assessed?

You will be assessed through both practical and written tasks over the first year of the 90 credit diploma and the Top Up course in the second year. On this course you will be assessed through an initial assessment of physical fitness, residential assessment as well as:

  • Presentations

What could I do next?

On successful completion of the 90 Credit Diploma, you may wish to complete the Extended Diploma year. You can progress to careers in uniformed public services or go onto a higher education course.

Additional cost

There will be a non-refundable £250 fee payable at enrolment. This will go towards the cost of uniform, college trips and transport.
