GCSEs in English and Mathematics

It is a government requirement that all 16–18 year old students on full time programmes who have not yet achieved a C grade at GCSEs in English and/or mathematics have to continue studying these subjects. If you have a D grade in GCSE English and/or mathematics, you will attend classes in one of our re-take your GCSE groups. If you have an E grade or lower, you will attend Functional Skills English and/or mathematics in order to improve your skills and work towards a higher GCSE pass.

A Grade C at GCSE English and mathematics are essential components for many employment and further learning opportunities. We offer GCSE English and maths courses to those who can achieve Level 2 on the Initial Assessment and, for English only, pass a written assessment

Some of our students need additional GCSE qualifications to prepare them for higher level courses, such as A Levels or BTECs. Our Step Up and GCSE ESOL programmes, taught in small, friendly classes, allow you to take up to 5 additional GCSE subjects depending on the GCSE passes you have already achieved. Alongside your GCSEs you will also study for a Progression Award which will help you prepare for your next step either in to further study or employment.
