About the course

If you are interested in the hairdressing industry and would like to know more about it, then this is the first step to develop your knowledge further. 

The NVQ Level 1 Certificate in Hairdressing course will focus on developing your knowledge of the basic theory, principles and practical skills required to prepare and enable you to progress to Level 2 in Hairdressing.  Once these skills have been gained and assessed the qualification will be awarded by City and Guilds and is nationally recognised.

Entry Requirements

To study this course, you:

  • must be aged 19 or over
  • will need to be operating at E3 / level 1 English ( grade D / E GCSE) and able to communicate with people.
  • have a keen interest in the Hairdressing Industry
  • have a reasonable level of fitness to enable you to stand for long periods of time.
What will I do on this course?

You will learn how to:

  • present yourself for a work environment to meet industry requirements,
  • understand how to shampoo, condition, blowdry and style hair using a variety of methods
  • work safely in the salon.

This course is for adults aged 19 +

Complete an online application form. You will be required to attend an information session and complete an Online Initial Assessment in English to ensure your level of English meets the required standard to enable you to succeed on the course.

What could I do next?

On full completion of the course with a good record of attendance ( above 85%) you can progress to level 2 Certificate in Womens hairdressing or Level 2 Certificate in Barbering.
