About the course

This standalone course will teach you the barbering essentials, focusing on the theoretical and practical skills of cutting and styling. You will also learn the importance of health and safety in the workplace and gain superb customer service skills enabling you to work within this industry. Each week you will spend up to four days in the workplace and one day in College. The College works closely with your employer to provide you with support, helping you to succeed in your chosen career.

Entry Requirements

  • Salon employment as an apprentice, a minimum of 30 hours a week
  • 2 GCSEs grade D or above
  • Excellent record of attendance and punctuality
  • Good communication skills
  • Commitment, enthusiasm and the motivation to succeed
  • To complete an online initial assessment
What will I do on this course?

Mandatory modules

The course is a combination of theory and practical sessions. You will learn and practise your skills in our fully equipped salons at College and also in your workplace.

Who is it for?

This course is designed for enthusiastic people of any age that want to learn and develop their knowledge and skills as well as gain qualifications by combining employment, training and study at the same time.

How Is this course assessed?

You are assessed throughout your course in College and the workplace on a 50/50 basis by our highly trained staff while your skills develop. You will need to complete a small exam for the Functional Skills part of the course.

What could I do next?

On successful completion of the course the natural progression would be completing the Level 3 NVQ in Barbering. This will give you a broader range and quality of skills as well as an understanding of the industry, opening a variety of employment opportunities. You could also work as a Barber.
