About the course

Always been interested in holistic therapy? This course is a fantastic way of learning the basics of holistic therapy in the excellent environment of our South Bristol Skills Academy. The course covers health and safety, business skills, anatomy and physiology, body massage, basic zone therapy, nutrition and basic aromatherapy. This will allow you to progress to the Level 3 qualification which will lead to you being a fully-qualified therapist. 

Entry Requirements

  • 5 GCSEs grade D to include English
  • Total commitment, enthusiasm and motivation and excellent time keeping
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality report from school  
  • ICT skills would be an advantage but not essential
  • If you are bilingual you will need evidence of your English Language skills
  • You will need to be able to communicate with people from every age group, social and ethnic background


What will I do on this course?

These modules will provide you with all theory and practical skills to be successful:

  • Introduction to principles and practice for complementary therapists
  • Introduction to clinic services and business awareness for complementary
  • Health, Safety and Hygiene for Complementary Therapies
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology for complementary thera
  • Basic massage therapy techniques for complementary therapies
  • Basic aromatherapy
  • Basic reflexology
  • Follow health and safety working practices and set up a couch
  • Offer a large range of treatments on family and friends  
  • Learn the basics of business requirements
  • Complete practical treatments to the satisfaction of the client
  • Evaluate the results of the treatment and record
  • Provide suitable aftercare advice


Who is it for?

 Would you like to learn how to help others? This course is a fun and informative way to learn this subject and includes enrichment opportunities where you work in the community with groups such as Bristol Drugs Project, NHS, Mental Health Charities, Blind Organisations, Asian Day Care Centre, Domestic Violence Organisations. This will give you the opportunity to develop links that may lead to employment in the future.

  • A one-year full-time programme of nine months
  • 2 home study days to work on assignments and practise all practical skills
