About the course

This is an opportunity to learn the skills that will lead you to a career in the exciting world of theatre and film as a make-up artist. When applied effectively, make-up becomes one of the key factors in conveying a sense of drama, whether in film, theatre, photograph or music video. Working hands-on, you will develop the skills to create different looks including fashion, stage and character make-up.

Entry Requirements

This is a very intensive course and learners must be able to give 100% commitment to their studies. Ideally, you will be over 18 or have achieved Level 2 in Hair and Media Make-up.You must have:

  • A strong commitment to the stage and entertainment industry
  • An excellent attendance and punctuality report
  • Enthusiasm and motivation
  • You will need to communicate with people from every age group, social and ethnic back ground
  • Some experience working on voluntary projects
  • Hair and Media Make-up Level 2
What will I do on this course?

You will gain the skills you need to start a successful career in theatrical and media make-up and will learn about working within the industry. During your time at college there will be opportunities to attend work experience and participate in regional and national competitions where we have achieved many awards. The City of Bristol College's Theatrical and Media Make-up students have won the UK Skills Gold Medal, both regionally and nationally for the past two academic years.

Who is it for?

you have a keen interest in the stage and entertainment industry and are committed, enthusiastic and motivated,or you have just successfully completed Level 2 Hair and Media Make-up, or if you wish to progress on to university this course is for you.

How Is this course assessed?

Assessment is continuous throughout the course, with a final graded assessment in both the practical an the theory

  • A 5 hr Practical skills assessment
  • An external theory test
What could I do next?

You could gain employment as a freelance artist working in TV, film, theatre, photography, pop videos and special effects. You may wish to progress to university to specialise in a chosen area.

You will also be required to purchase uniform and a standard kit. There is also a requirement to buy sketchbooks and few additional items to the standard kit, the cost is about £100 on average.This information will be given out at the pre induction that takes place during the summer, to enable you get prepared ready for a September start.
