About the course

Working with and caring for children & Adults is one of the most rewarding careers. The course will give a good basic understanding of Child & Health Care including practical tasks, theory and a work placement. 

Entry Requirements

  • 4 GCSE Grade E's, including English Language grade E/2 or FS1, maths entry 3
What will I do on this course?

You will study a variety of topics to help you prepare for work with children. To give you an idea of the type of things you will learn, here are some examples:

  • Supporting Children's learning through every day Experiences
  • Communication Skills For Health & Social Care
  • Personal & Social Development

 You will be expected to study English & Maths Functional Skills or, if appropriate, GCSE English and Maths alongside the qualification.

How Is this course assessed?

You will be assessed through:

  • Regular portfolio assessment throughout the year, by which you will always know how you are progressing on course and given many opportunities to improve your performance.
  • Assessments in English and Maths at a level appropriate to you and are taken in small groups in classrooms.
What could I do next?

If you succeed on the course, receive positive placement feedback and obtain a good tutor reference you could progress to:

  • Childcare Intermediate (Level 2)
  • Health and Social Care Intermediate (Level 2)
  • Childcare Apprenticeship
  • H&SC Apprenticeship
