About the course

If you want to work with children from birth to 5 years this course will prepare you to enter the workforce as an assistant in an early years setting. You will be able to develop your knowledge at the same time as applying related skills in a real work environment.

Entry Requirements

You will need:

  • A DBS ( Disclosure and Barring Service) check undertaken by your placement. In some circumstances the college will carry out your DBS, but there will be a charge for this.
  • A voluntary work placement or employment with children aged 0-5 years
  • Numeracy/Literacy at Level 1

You will also need access to:

  • A computer and the internet
What will I do on this course?

You will study a variety of topics, including the following:

  • Legislation, frameworks and professional practice
  • Introducing the role of the early years practitioner
  • Professional development
  • Play, development and learning for school readiness
Who is it for?

If you are passionate about working with children, this course is for you. It will allow you to work as an assistant with children in a variety of childcare settings such as nurseries, children's centres and baby units. You will need to be:

How to apply

In order to progress onto the CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Education and Care (Early Years Educator) you will also need to have attained a GCSE in Maths and English, grade A-C or be actively working towards this.

If you are aged 19-23 and enrolling on your first full Level 2 qualification you may be eligible to learn for free. if you are registered unemployed or in receipt of certain benefits you may be eligible to learn for free. If you are an international student fees will apply for this course.
