About the course

The Level 3 Apprenticeship in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (STL) is on-the-job training, working with children in schools. You will attend college one day a week studying the Diploma in STL as well as English, Maths and ICT Functional Skills. The course can last up to two years and you will be paid a wage by your employer.

Entry Requirements

You must have the following:

  • A job providing a minimum of 30 hours of work a week and a minimum hourly rate of £3.30
  • A contract of employment
  • Day release from your employer

You should ideally possess:

  • English GCSE Grade C/D
  • Maths GCSE Grade C/D
  • ICT GCSE Grade C/D
  • Commitment to the role and course
  • 100% attendance at college (all subjects)
What will I do on this course?

You will attend college to complete your Functional Skills and Diploma for one day a week. The diploma is made up of mandatory and optional units, which will be assessed by written tasks, tests and/or observations of your work.

How Is this course assessed?

You will be observed in the work place and will gather evidence to show you are competent at a level 3 standard. You will complete written tasks to demonstrate your knowledge of the profession and test to demonstrate your ability to apply English, Maths and ICT in everyday situations. Reviews are completed between you, the assessor and your employer, on an eight-weekly basis, giving you regular feedback on your progress.

What could I do next?

Upon completion of the Level 3 STL, it may be possible to progress into employment in the education sector or Higher Education.
