About the course

Do you enjoy working with people and thinking of a career in care? This popular one year course has been designed to develop your knowledge of health and social care and to prepare you with the skills to work with people in care settings.You will study a range of topics and will spend one day a week in an elderly care or early years setting. Here you will get hands on work experience working alongside care professionals who will help you put your learning into practice. 

Entry Requirements

  • 4 GCSE grade D's, including English Language grade D/3, maths at a minimum of grade E/2 or Level 1 FS Maths


What will I do on this course?


You will study a range of topics including:

  • Human development
  • Communication
  • Promoting health and well being
  • Equality and diversity
  • Creative Activities
  • Healthy living

You will also develop your study skills on the course and develop the English and Maths skills needed by employers. You will also have the opportunity to resit GCSE English and Maths.


Who is it for?


Are you enthusiastic and interested in developing your skills and knowledge of the health and social care? Do you want to progress into either employment or further study? This course will prepare you for work or additional courses in the health and social care sector.

How Is this course assessed?


You will be continually assessed by assignments and project work so you will always know where you are and how you are progressing.  There is also a short externally set exam during the course.


What could I do next?


  • Progress to a Level 3 course, for example BTEC National Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care or a related subject area
  • Start a career in the health and social care sector, for example as an elderly care or health care assistant, trainee youth worker
  • Progress to a health and social care  apprenticeship scheme which combines paid employment with further study
