About the course

This course provides you with an introduction  to Health and Social Care leading to a BTEC Level 1 Award.

Entry Requirements

You must have good literacy skills assessed at Entry Level 3 as the course requires you to complete several assignments in written form.

  • Good communication skills
What will I do on this course?

The BTEC Level 1 Award consists of two units: Health and Social Care Needs / Communication Skills with Adults and Children in Health and Social Care. You will learn about:

  • Different health and social care needs
  • Factors that affect health
  • Health and social care provision
  • How to communicate effectively with adults and children in health and social care
Who is it for?

This is a taster course for unemployed people who are considering a career in Health and Social Care.

  • You must be in receipt of Job Seeker's Allowance (JSA) or Employment Support Allowance (ESA)
  • You must be able to commit to attending college or 1 day a week 9.15-16.15 for 10 weeks

How Is this course assessed?

You will create a portfolio of assignments to evidence your learning. You must pass all the assignments in order to gain the Award.

What could I do next?

You could progress on to a Level 2 course in Health and Social Care or a related subject. Or why not apply for a Level 2 Apprenticeship.
