About the course

Enrich your understanding and critical appreciation of literature by exploring narrative, genre and other key literary concepts through the study of classic and modern texts. This subject will help you gain a university place in a variety of different courses. You will consider individual, moral, ethical and social issues. You must love reading different texts and enjoy analysing  the form, structure and language.

Entry Requirements

  • 6 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and Maths
  • You must also have a grade C or better in English Literature
What will I do on this course?

You will be studying a range of genres from poetry to short stories; from Shakespearean comedies to gothic erotica; from classic American novels to post-colonial literature.

Who is it for?

This course is part of a full time A Level programme of 4 different subjects and will appeal to Year 11 students who are enthusiastic about reading, discussing and writing about a wide range of texts: including plays, poetry and novels.

What could I do next?

You could progress to university to study literature, journalism, creative writing, teaching or any other course which requires excellent oral and written communication skills. Employers respect the academic nature of this qualification.
