About the course

AS Film Studies will deepen your understanding and enjoyment of film. You will engage with a wide range of different films developing your analysis and personal reflection skills. It is intended that your interest in film culture will be fostered which can be taken forward in lifelong learning.

Entry Requirements

  • 6 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or better, including English and Maths
What will I do on this course?

You will be developing your understanding of film through a combination of analytical and creative work.

  • Explore film through an analysis of how it creates meanings and responses
  • Study film producers and audiences
  • Examine topics in British film
  • A comparative study of two US films
  • A creative project
Who is it for?

This course is part of a full time A Level programme of 4 different subjects and will appeal to Year 11 students:

  • Perhaps your study of literature has sparked an interest in narrative
  • You have an interest in film beyond just watching blockbusters
  • You want to develop your knowledge of the history of cinematic practices
What could I do next?

The course will deepen your understanding of and passion for a range of films by enhancing your cine-literate skills of observation, critical analysis and personal reflection. The theoretical and practical skills obtained on this course are transferable into either employment or university courses, especially in humanities and cultural based subjects.
