Do you want to understand why people think, feel and act the way they do? Through Psychology - the scientific study of mind and behaviour - you'll learn all this and develop a range of practical skills while gaining a qualification that employers hold in high regard.

Entry Requirements

  • 6 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and Maths
  • GCSE at grade C or above in Science is also recommended for AS Level Psychology
What will I do on this course?

Psychology is the science of mind and behaviour so you will spend a good deal of your time dealing with psychological theory and evidence. This means that as well as being able to explain what psychologists know, you also need to be able to discuss how they know it. There are six sections:

  • Social influence
  • Memory
  • Attachment
  • Approaches in psychology
  • Psychopathology
  • Research methods
Who is it for?

This course is part of a full time A Level programme of 4 different subjects and will appeal to Year 11 students who:

  • Have an interest in human and animal behaviour
  • Are interested in current affairs
  • Enjoy studying a subject that is relevant to their own lives and experiences
  • Have good analytical skills and enjoy finding out their own answers - not just being taught
What could I do next?

This A level course will enhance your employment prospects and prepare you for a degree in Psychology or a related subject. Psychologists work in many areas of society such as business, health, education and sport. By employing scientific methods and knowledge about human behaviour and the human mind, psychologists develop procedures to deal with practical problems such as:

  • Helping people overcome depression, stress, trauma or phobias
  • Speeding up recovery from brain injury
  • Making sure that people are happy at work and perform to the best of their abilities
  • Helping to stop or prevent bullying at school or in the workplace
  • Ensuring that school pupils and students are being taught in the most effective way
  • Helping to deal with addictions
  • Helping alleviate educational problems such as dyslexia and learning disabilities
