About the course

The study of Sociology encourages you to develop your capacity for critical thinking and to see relationships between the different parts of society. It will help you to appreciate the diversity of societies, how society is organised, and the role of individuals within it.

Entry Requirements

  • 6 GCSEs at grade C or above including English and Maths
  • Good essay writing skills are essential for this subject
What will I do on this course?

On this course you will study a number of different areas of social life.There are 3 compulsory sections in AS Sociology and one optional section, for which we have chosen Families and Households.

Who is it for?

Sociology is part of a full time A Level programme of 4 different subjects and will appeal to Year 11 students who like to question what is going on around them and who are keen to find out the reason why things are as they are.

What could I do next?

The A Level course will give you a suitable foundation for a degree course in Sociology or a related subject such as Psychology, Law, Politics or Philosophy. Related work opportunities include social work, teaching, law, nursing, medicine and any other disciplines that require an understanding of why people are as they are.
