About the course
The Progression Into Independence course is a full time (four days a week) programme of study for students working at Pre-Entry and Entry Level. It is offered at both Ashley Down Centre and South Bristol Skills Academy. Our current second year students are currently at College Green Centre and The Brislington Centre (Independence Training Facility). The course supports learners’ progress towards adult life, independent living and work skills by offering real, hands-on experience in residential and work environments.
This course introduces students to a variety of subjects including IT, retail, horticulture, art and cookery skills. Students will be supported to gain confidence and basic skills which will help them towards the world of work and independence. Students will also have an opportunity to complete a work placement.
Teaching and learning will take place at college, in the community and at our independence training facility in Brislington, Bristol. Learners will be encouraged to practise their emerging skills. Tutors, support and learning coaches work with students and families to make sure students are supported and challenged.
There are no formal entry requirements. You will have an interview where you can show us some work you are proud of. We will talk about the course and discuss what help you need. Taster days can be arranged after meeting with staff. If you are aged 19-24 you need to have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) saying what you are working towards at college and what support you will need.
