About the course

If you are looking for a job in the motor vehicle industry, then this course could lead to it.  This course is more advanced than the level 1 course has been developed to meet the needs of the motor industry. You will learn a wide range of relevant practical skills in our fully equipped modern workshops and also includes mechanical theory and related subjects. 

Entry Requirements

  • 3 GCSEs at grades 9-3 including Maths and English
  • Level 1 Vehicle Maintenance Qualification (optional)
What will I do on this course?

The course consists of the modules listed below and all must be achieved to gain the qualification. You will also study Work Skills and Functional Skills in English and Maths.

  • Health and Safety and Good Housekeeping in the Automotive Environment
  • Support for Job Roles in the Automotive Environment
  • Materials, Fabrication Tools and Measuring Devices in the Automotive Environment
  • Routine Light Vehicle Maintenance
  • Light Vehicle Engines Mechanical, Lubrication and Cooling
  • Light Vehicle Chassis Systems
  • Maths & English GCSE and/or Functional Skills or Contextual Maths and English

These Modules are successfully completed using both Theory and Practical session 50% theory and 50% Practical. There will also be course content that will needs to be completed at home to support your studies.

It is expected that you complete 30 hours of work experience during your studies you must ensure that you organise this. We will support you in looking for this.

Who is it for?

This course is aimed at any 16-18 year old or Adults who has a passion for cars or for someone who has already completed a Level 1 Maintenance and Repair Qualification . You should have the desire to learn and develop the skills necessary to maintain and repair motor cars. You will need to be a committed and determined person who wants to succeed and has the ability to work as part of a team.

Additional cost

Although all the tools and equipment are supplied you will need to provide safety boots, protective clothing, work gloves, writing equipment, calculator and paper.


On interview you will be required to bring with you your latest report from School or college and be prepared to take a Mechanical Aptitude test along with English and Maths Assessment
