About the course

If you are under 25 and have profound and complex learning difficulties, the Focus programme will help you to move from life at school into the adult world. It is offered as a series of half-day and whole-day sessions, which may be combined to make up either a part-time or full-time course.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements. All you need to do is have:

  • A meeting to make sure that the course is right for you and that your support needs can be met before being offered a place.
  • If you aged 19-24 you need to have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) saying what you are working towards at college and what support you will need.
What will I do on this course?

The half day subjects including some of the following:

  • Cookery
  • Gardening
  • Music for Communication
  • Sensory Art
  • Workskills
  • Drama
  • Exploring Nature
  • Sport
  • Exploring Movement
Who is it for?

Young adults, including school leavers, who have profound learning difficulties and may have complex support needs. Most students will need very specific support in order to take part in learning activities at college.

How Is this course assessed?

There is no formal assessment on this course. Students achieve through an individual learning plan, and progress towards their goals is continually assessed. Students may gain credits towards a Foundation Learning Personal Progress award.

Additional cost

You will be asked to contribute a materials fee of £5 for each half day you attend.
