About the course
Supported Internships are full time, year-long study programmes for young people aged 18-24 who have a learning disability and/or autism and who want to find paid employment. The College’s Internship programmes are offered in partnership with Bristol City Council (our Project Search employer) and Sixteen Co-operative Ltd, who provide job coaches who are trained in systematic instruction.
Internships are designed to support lasting, paid employment by equipping young people with the skills they need for work, through learning in the workplace. Alongside their time with the employer, young people follow a personalised study programme with an emphasis on employability and, if appropriate, English and Maths.
Work placements involve on-the-job training with expert job coaches who are responsible for supporting both interns and their employers and mentors.
At the end of the year the interns will continue to work with their job coach who will support them to find employment that utilises the skills and experience they have gained from the programme.
