Barbering
This course is designed for enthusiastic people between 16 and 24 years of age who want to learn and develop knowledge, skills and gain qualifications by combining employment, training and study at the same time.
What will I learn
The course will cover all the practical and theory aspects of barbering such as shampooing and conditioning, style and finishing hair, consulting with clients and colouring and cutting.
You will also learn the importance of health and safety, and the benefits of promoting good customer service.
In addition to this, the course also offers functional skills in English and Maths which are essential for all jobs, enabling you to become more flexible and adaptable within the workplace.
What do I need?
- 2 GCSEs Grade D and above
- Salon employment as an apprentice for a minimum of 16 hours per week
- Total commitment, enthusiasm and motivation
- Record of Achievement showing an excellent attendance and punctuality report
- You will need to be able to communicate with people from every age group, social and ethnic background
- A personal interview
How long is the course?
The course can be completed in two years and comprises one day a week in College in conjunction with full-time employment with an approved employer.
How will I know how I'm doing?
You will be continually assessed and supported in College and at your workplace and will also complete a portfolio containing evidence of your work. You will have to take an exam to test functional skills.
How will this help me in the future?
On successful completion of the course the natural progression would be NVQ Level 3, this will give you a broader range and quality of skills and understanding of the industry, opening a variety of employment opportunities.
