What is an Apprenticeship?
A combination of on- and off-the-job training, and usually lasts one to two years.
Learn real-life skills whilst working for an employer and attending City of Bristol College on a regular basis to gain relevant qualifications.
AND you get paid from day one.
What qualifications will I get?
On successful completion of your Apprenticeship:
- A National Vocational Qualification (NVQ)
- Key Skills qualifications such as communication, number skills, team working, ICT and problem-solving
- A technical certificate (BTEC National Diploma or City & Guilds Progression Award)
Is an Apprenticeship for me?
- Do you already feel committed to a particular job or career path?
- Do you enjoy being in the workplace on work experience?
Do you enjoy being in an adult environment? - Are you ready for working life?
- Are you ready to earn a wage?
- Are you ready for responsibility?
- Are you ready to work in a team as well as on your own?
- Would you eventually like to gain a degree or foundation degree?
Am I eligible to do an Apprenticeship?
If you live in England, are not currently in full-time education and don’t have a university degree, an Apprenticeship could be for you. Entry requirements are flexible and take into account practical skills, interests and experience, as well as academic achievement.

Finding an employer
If you are offered a place on the Apprenticeship scheme, we will work with you to help you find an Apprenticeship with a local employer:
- We will put your name forward to employers we are in contact with, or who contact us
- We will give you information and advice about how to approach employers for yourself
- We will contact and make all necessary arrangements with any employer you know who wishes to offer you an Apprenticeship – just let us know their name and contact details
- We may invite you to special events to meet suitable employers
- We may offer you a place on a ‘programme led Apprenticeship’ if you do not find an employer before the college training starts
