These short courses, designed around the local job market will give you fresh new skills linked to industries which are recruiting right now. They also offer flexibility so that you can fit them around any other commitments and they won’t affect your benefits.

Care and Childcare

Introduction to Care

This course will give you an understanding of the job opportunities which are available in the care industry (e.g. hospitals, primary schools and support organisations), and will provide you with the basic skills to get an entry level job in this area.

Caring for Children

This course will give you the skills to communicate effectively with children, and how to plan for the needs of children aged 0-5 years.

Please note: If you would like to have a job in care you will need to take a Criminal Records Bureau check (cost not included).

Introduction to Retail

This course will give you an introduction to retail and customer service.

By the end of the course you will be able to carry out routine retail and customer service duties. You will also be confident in understanding health and safety at work, and how to deal with customers effectively.

Business Administration

Introduction to Business Administration

By the end of the course you will be able to carry out routine administrative tasks (such as filing, photocopying and printing), create computer-generated documents and be confident in using the internet.

Security

Introduction to Security (including National Certificate in Door Supervision)

This course will teach you how to work with different customers, how to deal with difficult customers and when /how to use physical intervention.

 

Please note: In order to take the Door Supervision exam you will be required to provide evidence of your identity, and must understand that there will be an element of physical activity as part of the course.

Hospitality

Introduction to Hospitality

This course will introduce you to the hospitality industry, and includes customer service, healthy eating and food sourcing. You will also look at the jobs that are available in this sector.

Construction

Introduction to Construction (including CSCS Health and Safety test)

This course will give you an introduction to working in the construction industry.

It provides support for the CSCS Health and Safety test, and at the end of the course you will be invited to take the test at a local centre. If successful, this will provide you with a certificate showing you are ready to apply for your CSCS card.

Please note: the College does not pay for the CSCS card.

Information Technology

This course will give you confidence in using the Microsoft Office programs, including word processing, spreadsheets and presentations. By the end of the course, you will be able to produce professional documents in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

This course gives you an introduction to the health and fitness industry, and is ideal if you are interested in a job within the sector.
