At City of Bristol College, we've got an apprenticeship with your name on it

We offer over 40 career paths to choose from, and our proven combination of on-the-job training and college study will give you and your chosen career a real boost. And what’s more, you’ll be paid for your efforts.

Earn as you learn

Apprenticeships are paid employment with training. It’s much the same as having a real job, and whether it’s engineering or hairdressing, you’ll work alongside experienced workers who will help you learn the ropes. You’ll also study at College towards a recognised qualification (such as an NVQ), which means that you’re getting the very best mix of practical and theoretical training. And perhaps better still, you’ll get paid!

The National average weekly wage for an apprentice is £170 and, as your skills develop, your pay will increase too.

Types of Apprenticeship

Intermediate Apprenticeship – this will provide you with worthwhile, functional skills and a relevant knowledge-based qualification.

Advanced Apprenticeship – again, you can expect to receive valuable skills and training, with a knowledge-based qualification (slightly higher standard).

Higher Apprenticeship – our most challenging yet rewarding Apprenticeship will provide you with the skills you need, plus a knowledge-based qualification, such as a foundation degree.

What could I be?

You could move into any number of careers. We offer apprenticeships in a huge number of professions that are relevant to today's economy – everything from design, accounting and business administration, retail and computing. If you're more of a practical person, we also offer apprenticeships in traditional areas like engineering, motor vehicle, catering and plumbing - browse all of our apprenticeships.

What does an apprenticeship cost?

Your apprenticeship won't cost you anything, because it's funded by the Government. In fact, you'll get paid a wage and have paid holidays. As long as you’re 16 or over, have lived in the EU for 3 years and haven’t achieved a Level 4 or higher qualification, you’re eligible to apply.

What qualifications will I get?

When you successfully complete your apprenticeship, you will receive:

  • a competency based qualification (typically an NVQ)
  • a knowledge based qualification (typically a Certificate or Diploma)
  • functional skills in English, Maths and ICT (if applicable)
  • employment rights and responsibilities
  • personal learning and thinking Skills

However you needn't stop there. You could choose to keep building up your qualifications by studying up to Foundation Degree level, or even going on to university.

Why choose us?

We specialise in providing apprenticeships. Unlike many smaller and private providers, we have a long and successful track record and have been providing apprenticeships for more than 50 years.

As one of the largest providers of apprenticeships in the country we have some of the best facilities and resources, with centres right across Bristol.

Last year we placed over 1,800 individuals in successful apprenticeships. And we don't just provide the learning and qualifications. We support you all the way through your apprenticeship programme by:

  • Helping you find and apply for the job that’s right for you
  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support
  • Advising you on your next steps once you’ve completed the apprenticeship successfully

How do I apply?

Apprenticeships are open to anyone living in England over the age 16 who is not already studying for a full-time course. The specific requirements will vary, depending on the type of apprenticeship, but they tend to be based on a mixture of academic ability, enthusiasm and knowledge of your chosen area, as well as any practical skills you may have.

Apprenticeship Recruitment Team

Our team can provide information, advice and guidance on apprenticeships and tips. We will support you through the initial stages to help you find the right apprenticeship for you with the right employer. Once you have successfully completed your apprenticeship, we will also advise you on your next steps.

If you need extra support to help you take the next step onto an Apprenticeship, we can also offer a Pre-Apprenticeship programme. This programme lasts between 4-6 weeks and will help you gain confidence with applications and interviews, build up levels of English and Maths if necessary and carry out some work experience. Please contact us on 0117 312 5250 or email to find out more.
