City of Bristol College has announced that Lee Probert will be stepping down from the post of Principal and Chief Executive at the end of May (2019) to take up the position of Principal and Chief Executive at York College.
Speaking about the decision, Lee Probert said:
“This was a difficult decision because I have spent the last three years here, working with colleagues, partners and our students on making significant improvements to the college’s quality and financial performance, ensuring that communities of the city of Bristol have access to a strong college that they deserve. Alongside this we have continued to build on our strong links with local employers through our apprenticeship and work based training provision and to develop a curriculum which really responds to the needs of the city.
“Opportunities for Principal and Chief Executive posts can arise infrequently and I have, therefore, decided to take this opportunity to live closer to my family again and to take on a different set of priorities within the Further Education sector.
“I am truly going to miss people – the supportive staff, their collective energy and passion for educating both young and mature people. Over the next few weeks, I will be working with the Board on the new appointment and to work closely with my successor as part of a handover.”
Peter Rilett, Chair of the Corporation said:
“I am very grateful for Lee’s leadership, contribution and perseverance in rebuilding foundations for a strong college for our city that his successor, the Strategic Leadership Team, the Corporation and staff will be able to continue taking forward. We have begun our search for a new Principal and Chief Executive who will build on the achievements to date and continue to focus on ensuring that all young people in Bristol have the educational opportunities they deserve and that employers can secure the right people with the right skills now and for the future.
Over the next few months, the Board will continue to work with Lee, the Strategic Leadership Team and all staff to support students to achieve their goals. We will also be working with partners from across Bristol and the wider region to bring forward exciting new developments including the Construction Centre for South Bristol.”
The search process and recruitment campaign is expected to be concluded by the end of February 2019.
