'The Style Room' Owner Jo Tuckwell with College student Charlotte Marshall
Hairdressing apprentice Charlotte Marshall who achieved a high score in the first photographic round of the UK Skills competition this year, sailed through the UK Skills regional competition round, coming first in the Midlands heat, and is now heading towards the UK Skills Final Round, taking place in November. This final heat involves competing in five different tasks over a four day period.
Charlotte is rapidly achieving her childhood dream of being a qualified hairdresser, never expecting to have made it this far. With the support of her partner and three little girls, alongside the help from her college assessor Amanda Bray, Charlotte feels confident that she can build a beautiful future for herself and her family.
Charlotte tells us her story: “I felt so lucky when Jo asked me to be her apprentice at 31 years old. I didn’t think I would start a new career, but working in the salon has been amazing and has helped gain me confidence in my profession. Along with my learning in the College, I have had excellent training and am so looking forward to the final stage of the competition.”
‘The Style Room’, owner, Jo Tuckwell, comments: “As an employer, I am delighted at this outcome. I am very grateful to CoBC for the support they have given Charlotte during her apprenticeship and skills training.”
Charlotte has also felt extremely encouraged with the guidance and support she has received from the College, telling us that: “Being an apprentice with the College has been a very good experience. The College have done all they can to help cultivate my skills and give me the training necessary to achieve my dreams.
I would recommend anyone who wants to go into hairdressing, just do it! I am doing it later in life but it has not held me back.”
