Bristol students triumph at national competition finals

Hairdressing and Make-up students from City of Bristol College have triumphed at a national competition by bringing home four first place wins, three second place awards, one third place and two fourth place prizes.

The Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) UK Trainee Competition finals took place in Blackpool, where students competed for prizes in various categories.

Students from England, Scotland and Wales secured their places in the national finals by achieving first, second or third place wins in regional competitions earlier this year. At the South West area competitions in February, College students won 11 first place awards, seven second place prizes and eight third place awards.

She won the Pat Lord Trophy Event (ladies’ evening style), as well as second place awards in the Level 3 skills challenge and men’s commercial cut and finish.

Also to be congratulated is Ellie Punter, who won first place in the first year blow dry, and Charlotte Macey (pictured above right), who took the first place in the men’s commercial cut and finish. Carla Russell also won a first place award in the school link evening style, while Jess Sutton took fourth place in the same category.

Other winners included George Knight, who came second in the first year blow dry, and Lauren Bames, who took third place in face and body painting. Priscilla Kirchin also won a fourth place award in face painting make-up.

City of Bristol College’s Hairdressing students work in well-equipped salons where they develop their skills with a variety of clients. They also have the chance to participate in work experience, enter competitions and visit national hairdressing events.

The AHT competitions are open to all students enrolled on a programme for Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy or Media Hair & Make-up at an accredited centre.
