Students get fruity
City of Bristol College students have recently opened their own organic fresh fruit and vegetable shop. Learners have also begun to produce cakes, biscuits, craft items and gift cards for the new ‘Local and Tasty’ farm shop.
Links have been forged with the Severn Project, a Bristol-based social regeneration organisation, which will provide the fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables for the shop.
The project aims to provide locally-produced goods from the community involving College students studying entry level courses.
Nella Stokes, Head of South Bristol Skills Academy comments: “This project will enable learners to gain and use vocational skills such as horticulture, catering, customer service and retail.
"By encouraging the students to be more involved with local organisations enables them to engage with the community and teach them the benefits of sourcing local produce and supporting the local economy."
The Local and Tasty Farm Shop is open every Thursday at South Bristol Skills Academy in Hengrove between 12 noon and 2pm.
