Children's Care Learning and Development

Photo: An apprentice supervises a young child in a nursery.Offered at Levels 2 and 3. The Level 2 apprenticeship is relevant if you would like to work with children in early years settings, such as nurseries.

The Level 3 course is relevant if you are already employed to care for children (0-16 years) in a range of settings.

You will study the role of the childcare worker; principles of working with children aged 1-16 years, safe environments, child protection, growth and development of children and working with parents.

What will I learn?

Key skills, employment rights plus assessment in the workplace.

What do I need?

Level 2 – No formal qualifications required but you must have a desire to work with children. Applicants must be working in a setting that care for children under the age of 16.

Level 3 – Candidates need to be in permanent employment in an early years setting and have at 3 months’ working practice. They should have already achieved a relevant Level 2 qualification.

How will this help me in the future?

Level 2 – Working in a childcare setting as a childcare assistant.

Level 3 – Working in a supervisory role and hold a position of responsibility.
