Craft Bakery
The craft of baking provides us with one of our basic foodstuffs, bread, as well as all sorts of delicious extras.
The demand for the flavour and eating qualities of real crusty breads and wholesome products provides lots of the potential open to you to produce open to you to produce artisan products and respond to the ever changing needs of the modern customer.
What will I learn?
You will learn all about the practical and theory of preparing and producing craft bakery products, such as breads, rolls, morning goods and confectionary. You will also learn the importance of hygiene, food safety and health and safety standards along with the benefits of working with others and good team development. In addition you will gain Key Skills qualifications.
What do I need?
Good record of achievement, GCSEs grade D (at least 2) and above. Below Grade D – assessment test will have to be taken or full-time option available.
How long is the course?
The course comprises of day release in College in conjunction with full time employment with an approved employer and should be completed in 12 and 18 months.
How will I know how I am doing?
You will be continually assessed and supported in College and at your workplace and will also complete a portfolio containing evidence of your work. You may have to take tests for Key Skills.
How will this help me in the future?
You may be able to progress on to the Level 3 Food Preparation and Cooking course which will further develop your skills and understanding of the industry, opening a wide variety of employment opportunities.
Career progression opportunities are excellent, possibly to develop your own business or to progress through management in national companies.
