Heavy Vehicle mechanics diagnose faults and adjust, repair and replace worn or damaged parts, as well as performing routine checks on vehicles.

The motor industry is one of the fastest moving industries where new skills are required all the time. Offering excellent pay and career progression, it's an exciting area to work in. So, if you want a career full of opportunities, a Heavy Vehicle Apprenticeship can set you on the right track.

What will I learn?

You will learn how to repair and service a variety of motor vehicles to a high standard and carry out examination, inspection and fault diagnosis. You will work towards Key Skills qualifications and the technical certificate and be given the opportunity to gain NVQ Level 3, the highest qualification recognised by the industry for a qualified technician.

What do I need?

Level 3 - 3 GCSEs grade C or better. Must pass assessment test if below C. Companies sometimes set entry requirements.

How long is the course?

This is a 3 year course, comprising of block release at College and full-time employment with a relevant company.

How will I know how I am doing?

You will be continually assessed in College and at your workplace and complete a portfolio containing evidence of your work. Written and online exams will have to be taken for some parts of the course.

How will this help me in the future?
