Photo: An IT apprentice at College.Using information technology effectively, inputting data onto a spreadsheet or database, creating professional documents, carrying out research on the internet or designing eye-catching presentations are valuable skills for all employees.

The need for quick access and rapid transmission of data means that there are more and more exciting job opportunities - so this course could be just what you need for a successful career in the modern workplace.

What will I learn?

You will work towards the NVQ in Using Information Technology at either Level 2 or 3, as well as Key Skills in Communication and Application of Number. On the advanced course you will also work towards the Computer Literacy and Information Technology advanced level award (Advanced CLAIT). You will be required to attend lectures in a range of subject areas including Business, Written Communication, Personal Effectiveness, Time Management and PowerPoint presentations.

What do I need?

Good command of English language and some IT knowledge desirable. Will assess individually.

How long is the course?

Level 2 - 12-15 months.
Level 3 - 24-26 months.

How will I know how I am doing?

Photograph: An IT apprentice working on a computer.The NVQ will be assessed using a variety of methods including observations in your workplace, taped interviews, personal statements and witness testimonies.

Key Skills and technical IT qualifications will be assessed externally.

How will this help me in the future?

Achievement of the qualification can lead to employment, a higher level Apprenticeship or to higher education.
